Interview with Biogas Channel - Rio Cuarto, Argentina: Synergy effects between biogas and bioethanol

Rio Cuarto, Argentina is a reference project of Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH for the production of biogas and bioethanol, awarded by the World Biogas Association with the AD & Biogas Industry Award 2020. The residues produced during the production of bioethanol from sugar-containing substrates have a good methane performance. With the help of this thin stillage, here consisting of corn silage and liquid manure, both thermal and electrical energy can be generated in the further process. This integration of biogas and bioethanol production not only reduces the CO₂ footprint in biofuel production through the dual use of land, but is also used in agriculture as fertilizer.

Learn more about the production process and use of bioethanol, as well as the Rio Cuarto biogas plant and the challenges that come with fermenting thin stillage, in the Biogas Channel interview with managing director Raphael Thies.
