Process engineering study for the extraction of activated carbon from residual biomass (CoAct)

The joint project began in 2018: "Integrated urban-rural concept for the production of activated carbon and energy sources from residual biomass -CoAct" (we reported on August 7, 2018). Since then, Andreas Krieg from K&F has developed 2 different designs for the processing technology in order to develop a suitable base material for the production of activated carbon that is as free of harmful substances as possible from different biomasses (landscape maintenance grass, roadside green, pomace, straw, organic waste bin, etc.). Questions about costs, capacities, possible locations and, of course, the process engineering itself are included in this study in order to be able to produce 1,000 - 4,000 t of activated carbon per year by means of pyrolysis in the Lake Constance area in the next stage of the project. The carbon footprint should be as small as possible, this is the question addressed by the project partner, Prof. Wachendorf from the Kassel University. This project is funded with two million euros by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BmBF) as part of the “Stadt-Land-Plus” funding measure. In addition to the planning and construction of biogas plants, Krieg & Fischer has a lot of experience in the fermentation of a wide variety of input materials: biowaste, waste from the sugar beet and food industries, etc., as well as the optimally adapted process technology.
